Freescale's Staying Put

The drawn out battle of whether Freescale will stay or go has been decided in Austin’s favor. The company was thinking about moving its headquarters to Chicago.

Austin offered a nice incentive package to the company, worth about $30 million. In return, Freescale will invest $600 million in its two Austin plants over the next ten years and add 500 jobs to the area.

Austinist is sure that the 200-600 employees (of 5,600) that would have had to move if the deal went through are happy they’re not trading frozen margaritas for snowballs.
