Occupy. Resist. Produce.

thetake.jpg We here at the Austinist hate corporate globalization as much as the next guy, so last night we made sure to catch a screening of The Take at the Alamo Drafthouse. This documentary follows a group of Argentine workers who decide to take over their factories after their owners have shut them down claiming bankruptcy. Written by Naomi Klein (No Logo) and directed by Avi Lewis, the film does a good job of portraying the workers’ struggles at the peak of the economic decline in Argentina.

The movie experience was made even better by the extra rowdy crowd that filled the Alamo’s downtown location. We booed and hissed whenever one of the corrupt officials would appear and clapped and cheered whenever the workers would triumph over growing adversity.

This film was brought to our shores by the good people of the Third Coast Activist. Bummed because you missed the screening? Don’t be, the second- and last- screening is tonight at 7pm.
