We like finding reasons to get out of the house on dreary Saturdays (it isn't like we are actually going to read our New Yorker subscription), so we decided to try out the relatively new restaurant the Nu Age Cafe over on Exposition and Enfield in the Tarrytown Center.

The menu is vegetarian and ranges from NuAge Club Sandwich to Cream Mushroom Linguine, but the bulk of the menu is definitely Asian inspired.
We sampled the Yam and Yucca Fries, served with a spicy dipping sauce, and followed them with the Soy Cashew Saute, all washed down with some black currant tea. The fries were good--if you go for yam fries, but we decided that we do not. Our nineteen month old eating companion also found the yam fries disagreeable. At least we can assume so as she spit them out onto the floor. Soy Cashew Saute, however, was light chewy soy goodness. We love fake meat. Can't get enough of it. It boggles our mind that more places don't offer fake meat. So now we have a place to go (other than the crowded Veggie Heaven) to experience a variety of fake meats to our heart's content. People, this is good news.

While the place describes itself as "cozy yet elegant", we wouldn't exactly call it either. Think about a Luby's with nice chandeliers and growing plants at your table. But whatever, a whole big menu of fake meat! Now that's what we're talking about.
We skipped dessert, but the choices look promising and we certainly were intrigued with our nearby guests eating delectables served straight from coconuts and mangos. We guess those were the coconut and mango sorbets. Fancy! Vegans might find sweet loving happiness in the honey berry soy pie. We can only assume, though. That's for trying next time.
