Exclusive parties DO suck...
Unless you are on the list. And it rocks. And it is hosted in someone's house, sponsored by serious magazines, subsidised by booze companies, laden with live bands, and still alive and kicking when the sun has lit the sky.
There are few places on this god forsaken planet where an event like this is more than possible, beyond probable, but actual.
Man, Austin rules.
It may seem strange to wax poetic about a party that happened nigh five days previous. "Don't you have better things to do than sit on your laurels reminiscing?" you might ask. We thought the same thing, but, fate has led our hand back time and time again to this single moment in history.
While browsing our favorite Scottish online newspaper, we came across an article covering this very party. Being inspired by the write up to then go poke around on Idlewild's web site (one of the 5 bands to play that night), we noticed they had posted a number of pictures in their gallery from the very same event.
Now finding two seperate references a continent away to a crazy good party that was nearly called to a premature end around midnight by Austin's fine police force may not seem to you like reason enough to linger overly long. We are prone to agree with you. Were that all that we found, we would immediately agree. But, that was not the last we would hear about it. Apparently, ultragrrrl had a reasonably pleasant time at the party.
The house party at his place was possibly the best party in all of SXSW. Hands down. Dude, fucking Idlewild played in a living room. IN A LIVING ROOM. Maximo Park played next to a hot tub! MC Chris played in a LIVING ROOM. The Prix and Fractious were fucking amazing as well and DJ Elhaam got a fucking dance party going for all the kids that drank too much of the free SPARKS!
From there we just started looking around, to see what other people had to say. We found references on daily refill, a mention from our comrades over at the Gothamist, and pictures from all over on Flickr. We were glad to see the success of this party very nicely reflected by its posthumous popularity.
That being said, even if there weren't articles on it in foreign periodicals and bloggers weren't blogging its praises, it still would have been worth our time to share with those of you who were left standing out on the street, trying desperately to fast talk your way past the security desk, that is was a Great Fucking Party.
