Aquamarine Austin

Austin isn't simply a blue bastion of liberal thought awash in the red red sea that is Texas. It is also a community committed to staying ahead of the pack when it comes to environmental responsibility, energy conservation, and foreward thinking programs to advance these ideals.

Not only do we as Austinites have access to many rebate programs designed to help reduce the the power consumption in our homes and offices. Not only does Austin import a fair amount of its power from the wind farms in west Texas. Not only can you get paid to implement solar technology on both commercial and residential buildings. (The best part of the solar program is, if you are actually generating more power than you are consuming at any given moment, it automatically gets shunted out onto the grid and you sell it back to the power company at the same rates they charge for delivering it.) Not only can you get free toilets to replace your water guzzling counterparts. Now, Austin is evaluating a program to test plug-in hybrid cars. KUT Radio has a short audio clip about this on their site.

Sometimes it is easy being green.
