Sterling Party: Not At Sterling's
While we're busy linking the Austin Chronicle, there's an article by Bruce Sterling where he explains why his annual SXSW Interactive closing party is no longer being held at his house, but rather a "secret location." He blames flash mobs and local police, but our blurry memory of being amongst the last to leave last year's party features well stocked liquor cabinets being raided by a drunken novelist, a dotcom CEO taking a 20-year old SXSW volunteer home with him, and a very drunk, very confused young man who did not know where he was and needed very badly to get back to his house in Dallas. We also remember Sterling wandering through his house, begging everyone to leave so that he could maintain a semi-respectable reputation.
We love you, Bruce, but the lies about flashmobs are too much. It is ok if you tell everyone it was all our fault. Next time, the party will be our place, and you can raid our liquor cabinet, which contains nothing but Robotussin.
But we don't know about this secret location nonsense. Where is our personal invite? We had better be on the VIP list!
