Coffee & A Bagel

In the morning, we find that there is nothing more satisfying than a strong cup of coffee, a toasted bagel, a cigarette, and a hearty bowel movement. Because we live in the hot coffee capital of the world, there are enough choices of venue for these morning activities to boggle the mind. So where should you go? We will tell you where to go.

Go to Bouldin Creek Coffee House.

Bouldin Creek Coffee is located at 1501 South 1st Street, the white hot heart of South 1st, otherwise known as the new South Congress, which is otherwise known as a street in the middle of Texas that is trying its hardest to be Los Angeles. It is bright green, and has a sign with a frog on it. If it is a nice day, there will be flocks of Austinites sitting on the deck and on a few tables outside.

There are three things that make a coffee shop a good coffee shop. First, they must have good, strong coffee, and a variety of coffee related things like soy milk, sugar and sugar type things, and spoons. Second, they must have a substantial bagel and a staff who knows how to toast said bagel, and how much cream cheese to put on it. And finally, they must have a good visits to first-name-basis ration. You should not have to order too many cups of coffee before the person behind the bar knows you by name, and can have your drink ready for you before you request it. We have been going to Bouldin every day since they opened, thus receive a tickertape parade upon walking through the door.

Bouldin has all three of these necessary components, in spades. Their coffee is delicious and strong, their bagels are large and crusty, and ash trays rain from the sky like honey from giant space bees. And in addition to the core requirements, they have a very respectable vegetarian menu featuring dishes suitable for breakfast, lunch, or a light dinner. They've also got pie and beer, two factors that make Bouldin a great place to go late at night when you've taken too many bong hits.

For the bowel movement part of your morning, we recommend staying at home with a copy of Arthur Magazine (available at Bouldin.)
